Rockies even road trip with win in Kelowna
By Stephanie Stevens
It was another up and down weekend for the Columbia Valley Rockies November 29 and 30.
Friday night saw the team in the Nicola Valley Arena but the final score was 8-3 for the Merritt Centennials.
âFriday night wasn’t a good enough effort in the back half of the game,â said head coach Tayler Sincennes. âWe didn’t finish enough checks and we spent much of the night poking and hoping which is how you end up with the result we got.â
The three goals the Rockies did manage were courtesy of Carter Velker (assists from Teo Fath and Jack Hefferan) and Carter Hensch (Bryan Kim) in the first and Paddy Donahue (Peter Godley) in the third.
Goalie Jaiden Jakubowski stopped 30 of 38 shots on goal.
The following night ended in a 4-3 win in Kelowna against the Chiefs.
âSaturday was better⊠there still some areas that need to be cleaned up but our penalty kill looked really good killing off all of their power plays,â said Sincennes. âGetting the split is nice after the effort we gave on Friday.â
The back-and-forth game saw goals in the first period from Dylan Duzan (Ashton Sledz and Kim), Hensch (Kim and Chance Cole) and Velker (Godley and Jack Thorne) in the second and the third period saw Velker (Godley) cinch the win.
Ryan Bain (pictured) was between the pipes for the Kelowna tilt and kept 30 of 33 shots on goal at bay.
The team is back in the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena Friday, Dec. 6, squaring off with the Creston Valley Thundercats. They are away Saturday for a game in Golden against the Rockets.
