COTR getting skills training support from province

The Government of B.C. is investing $91,200 in new opportunities for skills training at College of the Rockies (COTR) to prepare workers for jobs in Cranbrook.

COTR, in Cranbrook, will be getting 16 seats in heavy duty mechanics thanks to this funding.

“The students will learn skills that will help them build a brighter future – for themselves and for the future of their community,” stated Kootenay-East MLA Bill Bennett.

These foundation training programs provide trainees with the basic knowledge and skills needed for entry into a particular occupation

As part of a one-time $1.7 million province-wide Skills and Training Plan investment, the funding creates nearly 360 seats at 10 B.C. post-secondary institutions.

To learn more about foundation programs, training and careers in the trades, students, educators and parents are encouraged to visit the new Discover Trades BC website, www.discovertradesbc.ca, which is designed to get more students excited about opportunities in the trades.
