Graced By Their Presence
Leanne Stothert was born and raised in North Vancouver, and moved to Fernie in June of 2000. While living in Vancouver she attended various art programs including the 3D Animation program at Vancouver Film School, and the Graphic Design portfolio course at Capilano College. The birth of her first child in 2003 was the impetus to painting. She wanted to give her child a personal and unique memento of her early years. Suddenly those blank canvasses she’d been carrying around had a subject. Thus, painting began and it is now an integral part of her life.
Children’s bodies were Leanne’s first love in painting, but this past winter she began to paint something else that she holds sacred; the wild animals that surround us in the Kootenays. Leanne feels privileged to live nestled by mountains and valley bottoms that are home to these beautiful creatures. She cherishes the sighting of a coyote in a field, a moose wading in the shallows of the quiet arm of a river, a herd of elk communing in an open field. She hopes that as the human population grows in this region we will work for a balance of coexisting with wildlife and that we will continue to give them the respect and space they deserve.
Please join us at this fantastic opening reception on Thursday, April 25 to see Leanne’s latest work. Light refreshments will be served. If you have questions about this event, or other Arts Station events please contact us at 250-423-4842 or [email protected].
