Woven Fine
Kari Lehr and Karen Tamminga-Paton live and work in the beautiful Crowsnest Pass, Alberta. The work in this exhibition is a wonderful combination of beautiful paintings that are intensely personal and thought provoking. Through their use of evocative colour and organic imagery Kari and Karen express their worldview as artists. They are working their way though their mothering/nurturing years and the changes that come with mid-life, a universal experience that they express in a very personal way. Looking at their work it is no wonder that they have chosen to exhibit together; their work naturally complements each other leaving the viewer with a sense of whom the artists are.
Kari is a graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design (1987), she spent 20 years illustrating for various agencies, studios and corporations around North America. Today she pursues her own vision, working primarily in acrylic with collage elements as well as chalk pastel. Karen graduated from the University of Waterloo and Queen’s with a focus in environmental education, and a minor in fine art. Painting took a serious turn after taking part time studies at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design where she was inspired by Vancouver artist Nora Blanche. Karen enjoys kick-starting the creative process in others and doing workshops especially geared toward the artist-in-denial. Karen divides her time between raising three amazing daughters, teaching high school fine arts, and working in her studio.
Please Join them at the Arts Station for the opening reception on Thursday, May 30 at 7 p.m. and see the wonderful work that they have to share with Fernie.
