Highway 93/95 now closed south of Wasa
The mad dash of a rainwater and snowmelt engorged Kootenay River the past few days has now resulted in the closure of Highway 93/95 south of Wasa.
Water has crested the elevated roadbed making travel too perilous.
An alternative route is available via Highway 95A through Kimberley and Tata Creek. According to DriveBC, opening time is still being determined through ongoing assessments.
The wash out at the Springbrook Bridge, 12 km north of the Highway 93/95 and Highway 95A junction, has traffic proceeding over the Skookumchuck-based bridge single file. Single lane alternating traffic will continue with 24-hour traffic control.
