It’s been known for weeks that there was great potential for a flood of candidates vying for City of Kimberley council and today, Oct. 14, that was proven true when the nomination period closed.

A total of 18 residents are running for the city’s six council spots, including only two incumbents, Albert Hoglund and Paddy Weston.

The mayoral race shook down to just two candidates, from the expected four of a week ago, with Weston announcing today that she was opting to run for council again, instead of mayor.

Jim Ogilvie is seeking his 13^th term as mayor, while Ron McRae, the only person to unseat Ogilvie (for one term) since 1972, is taking another crack at Kimberley’s top chair.

Also running for council are Melissa Broadhurst, David Chorneyko, Darren Close, Kent Goodwin, Chantel Hack, Craig Hillman, Jackson Kennedy, Ron Kerr, Don McCormick, Dave McFadden, Bev Middlebrook, Darryl Oakley, Tim Park, Lori Pearson, Laurel Ralston and Jack Ratcliffe.
