Josh Dueck to be honoured at Spring Splash
The City of Kimberley, in conjunction with the Kimberley Alpine Resort and the Disabled Skiers Association, would like to extend an invitation to join them in honouring Josh Dueck this weekend.
Mr. Dueck, who recently received a gold medal in the Super G and a silver medal in downhill at the Sochi Winter Paralympics Games, will be in attendance at the resort for Spring Splash on Saturday, starting at 2 p.m.
Both the city and the resort will be presenting Mr. Dueck with a small token of the community’s appreciation for his achievements both on and off the slopes.
Dueck was born and raised in Kimberley, learning to ski at the age of 13. In 2004, he was paralyzed from the waist down following a ski accident while coaching. Just two years later, Josh returned to his creativity on the slopes and began ski racing, becoming a professional skier in 2007. “I am glad to see Josh return to Kimberley and the mountain that he learned to ski on,” stated Lloyd Steeves, Volunteer President of the Kimberley Disabled Skiing Association.
Josh Dueck has received many prestigious medals and titles over the years, including ‘Canadian Para Alpine Champion’ a total of eight times. “We are very fortunate to have an amazing ambassador like Josh representing the city of Kimberley, the province of B.C., and Canada wherever his adventures may carry him,” remarked Mayor Ron McRae.
