McNabb named to AHL all-star team

Brayden McNabb is making the most of his first call-up to the National Hockey League Buffalo Sabres, after beginning his professional hockey career with the club’s American Hockey League farm team, the Rochester Americans.

His early success with the Sabres, a team struggling with injuries to key defenders Tyler Meyers, Christian Ehroff and Andrej Sekera, may keep him from his first really significant pro hockey honour – the AHL All-Star Classic.

McNabb was today (Jan. 4) named to the game, despite having only played 19 games for the Amerks (totaling one goal and nine assists). However, his play in the bigs could keep him from the Jan. 29/30 event in Atlantic City, NJ. If he’s sent back to Rochester before then, he’ll be eligible to play in the game.

It’s a nice quandary to be in for the 6’5” blueliner from Davidson, Sask., who turns 21 on Jan. 21.

He is the lone player from the Amerks to be named to the all-star game.

McNabb tallied 176 points (51 goals and 125 assists) in 278 games over four seasons with the Ice. He also compiled 37 points in 39 playoff games with the Ice, last year’s WHL champions.

He was selected 66th overall (third round) in the NHL’s 2009 entry draft by the Buffalo Sabres.

He scored his first NHL goal on Boxing Day against the Washington Capitals, and yesterday (Jan. 3) he had his first multi-point game, getting two assists against the Edmonton Oilers. He wears jersey No. 81.
