Kimberley residents asked to bone up on flood preparation
City of Kimberley residents are being encouraged to get up to speed on flood preparation, as recent snowstorms have upped the possibilities of Mark Creek (pictured above) flooding.
“With the heavy snowfall received in March 2012, the potential for high water levels this spring has increased. Take steps now to prepare in the event flooding along the Mark Creek requires you to leave your home on short notice!” states a notice on the City of Kimberley website from Jack Paterson, Emergency Coordinator.
To help people prepare the city has produced an information bulletin that is posted on its website (Mark Creek Flood Awareness Information ).
Information includes suggestions for simple steps families can take to be prepared, such as organizing a family emergency kit with necessary medications, personal toiletries, a change of clothing, identification, insurance papers and other important documents and emergency items.
Please not that there are currently no evacuation alerts in the Kimberley area. The information bulletin is being distributed “simply to provide you with information prior to the high water season,” the city points out.
