Ashley Furniture celebrates 10th anniversary

The Cranbrook Ashley Furniture HomeStore marked a milestone this year celebrating 10 years in business.

They say time flies when you are having fun. That is certainly the case with the Hoechsmann family, owners of the Ashley HomeStore and The Bedroom Furniture Galleries.

Discount Foods Outside 013A dozen years ago, they were on the lookout for a larger warehouse for their downtown location. The former Discount Foods grocery store had recently closed and the building had retail in the front and a great warehouse off the back.

“We just got carried away,” Joey Hoechsmann explained. “The strategy started with a warehouse, then a warehouse and mattress store, then into a warehouse and full line furniture store we called Home Living.” Two years later the store was expanded and converted into an Ashley Furniture HomeStore.

The 10-year journey has not been without challenges. In 2010 they had a fresh water line break flooding almost the entire 12,000 square foot showroom. This resulted in two months of renovations and an unforeseen bonus for the local community that Cranbrook residents still talk about; “The Big Flood Sale.”

Most recently, the store was expanded again with an additional 4,000 square feet of showroom. Ashley HomeStores have made Ashley the number one selling furniture brand in North America, featuring a great selection of furniture, mattresses, accessories and appliances. “We are extremely proud of our Ashley team and the high level of service they provide our customers.”

When asked if they ever found a warehouse solution, Hoechsmann explained, “We were lucky enough to finally find the warehouse of our dreams, allowing us to service our customers in a highly efficient, and effective way.”

Their new digs are in the old Liquidation World location on King Street, allowing them to service both stores out of one location.

“We would like to thank our customers for 10 great years! We look forward to many more,” Hoechsmann said.
