Charles Alfred MacKinnon
1938 – 2017
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Charles passed away peacefully on January 7th at the age of 78. Charles was the 8th child of 14 children born to Alfred and Margaret (Corbett) MacKinnon in Five Islands (Pizzlewig), Nova Scotia.
Charles moved to Cranbrook, British Columbia in 1957 and married the love of his life, Eleanor. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2005. Charles worked briefly for Cominco before becoming a logger with Crestbrook Forest Industries, where he worked until his retirement. Charles was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed camping with family and friends.
Charles is survived by his four children June, Joanne (Scott) Geddes, Steven (Dianne) and Scott (Glo). Grandfather to Shawna, Jeramy (Crystal Stevely), Bradley Geddes, Krista, Michael (Emily) Geddes, Jesse (Steve) Davis, Adam, John, Colin, Christopher, Cody, Wade Wilkinson, Clayton Wilkinson, Grace, Shawn Wilkinson, Shae-Lynn Wilkinson and River. Great-grandfather to Maria (James) Joinson, Tyler Oakley, Morgan Heidel, Layce, Chance and Drayton MacKinnon Baker, Brooklyn Davis, Bryn Hird, Charlie Geddes, Zoe Geddes, twins Mable and Maise, Naomi Geddes, Emery MacKinnon Tracey, Rylee Geddes, Kaysen MacKinnon Tracey, and Remington Stevely MacKinnon. Step-great-grandfather to Orion and Karma Lancaster; Zander, Heath and Robert Stevely Muir. Great-great-grandfather to Grayson and Bryson Joinson.
Charles was predeceased by both his parents and siblings: Russell and two other sisters in infancy, Evelyn Dempsey, Willard, Kenneth, Lawrence, Emily Boggs, Aubrey, Hilda Westhaver, and Gerald. Charles is survived by his youngest sister, Elva Yorke of Five Islands, Nova Scotia.
A funeral service for Charles will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 1:00 pm at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook. Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery.
