Obituary for Robert Gordon Haine “Bob”
Robert Gordon Haine
October 19, 1923 – December 18, 2016
Beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, Bob Haine, passed away peacefully on December 18th at the age of 93. He was the youngest of three children born to Robert and Fanny Haine in Macklin, Saskatchewan.
Bob joined the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 17 and proudly served in the United Kingdom and Europe during the Second World War. While on tour, he met his wife Nora, whom he married in Bromley, England in 1945. Following the war, Bob returned to Canada and Nora joined him the following year. They settled in Cranbrook, BC in 1947 after briefly living in Brock, Saskatchewan. Bob and Nora enjoyed 64 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2009.
Bob had several careers including working at a sawmill, Cominco Mine and selling Life Insurance before purchasing a paint shop in 1958. He ran R.G. Haine Paint and Wallpaper for 35 years before retiring. He immensely enjoyed visiting with customers and made many long lasting friendships. He helped to build and was an active participant in the first Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Cranbrook. The building still stands today.
Bob loved to garden, hunt, fish, prospect and shoot trap when he could find the time. He was a proud and independent individual and lived in his own home until being admitted to the hospital on November 11, 2016. Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the EKRH for their kindness and patience while caring for Bob during his time there.
Bob is survived by his loving children Marguerite (Terry) Burgess, Shirley Haine, Rob (Janet) Haine and Dave (Marny) Haine. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Our family will gather to celebrate Dad’s life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
