Jack MEAKIN
December 23, 1938 – January 16, 2017
Born in Dauphin Manitoba, Jack loved spending time in the wilderness and fishing with his Uncle Alex and cousin Billy Denby on the lakes of Northern Manitoba. As a young boy, he loved playing hockey and this love of hockey continued throughout his life. After High School, Jack took his electrical apprenticeship at G.T. Smith & Sons in Brandon, Manitoba. After working as an electrician for several years, Jack moved into sales and had a successful career spanning several years in Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia.
Jack married Judi in Winnipeg in 1964 and their son Jay was born in 1966.
Jack took up Judo around the time he was married and achieved his Black Belt ranking in 1971. He continued in this sport until well into his 50ās.
The Meakin family moved to Starbuck Manitoba c. 1971, established Loboden Kennels and developed sled dog racing teams that achieved a 7th Place ranking in the International Sled Dog Racing Association.
The family moved to Alberta in 1979 and lived there until relocating to Elkford B.C.in 1995. In Elkford, Jack established a production millworks – Agnes Creek Trading Co. Ltd. that he ran until the day he died. Judi and Jay will continue to operate the business.
Jack was deeply involved in his grandchildrenās lives and activities. He attended the birthdays and special occasions and was an enthusiastic spectator of many dance recitals, hockey games and baseball games. Nicola, Noah and Gabriella were his pride and joy.

Jack is survived by his wife Judi and their son Jay (Leanne) with grandchildren Nicola, Noah and Gabriella. Also left to mourn his passing is his brother-in-law Terry Mccullough (Cathy), cousins Jim Beck (Dianne), Don Playford (Sherry), Garnet Playford (Norma), and Alvin Meakin (Hope), nephew Dale Lintick (Shirley) and many dear friends.
Jack was predeceased by his parents John & Jean Meakin (Playford), sister Gwen LaFontaine (Roy) and sister Shirley Lintick (Cam).
