Obituary of Barbara Jean Dunbar
BARBARA JEAN DUNBAR (CLINCH)
OCTOBER 16, 1934 – MAY 23, 2022
Barbara was born in Hamilton, Ontario to Stan and Ethel Clinch Oct. 1934. She was big sister to brothers David and Paul and sisters Ethel and Marjorie. Barbara grew up in Hamilton, attended teachers college for 1 year and taught school for 6 years.
Barbara married David Dunbar May 3, 1958 and in 1959 moved west spending short stints in Kamloops, Princeton, Hedley and Rossland before settling in Kimberley BC in the early 70’s.
Along that path to Kimberley Barbara became a mother to 5 children. Peter, Paul, John, Tim and Donna. She later became Grandma and “Special Grandma” or “Grandma Nippers” to Samantha, Julia, Joel, Kyle, Justin, Patrick, Jordan, Zach, Natasha , David, Jennifer, Paige and Josie. In more recent years she added another title becoming Great Grandma to Melanie, Katie, Preston, Elianna and baby? due in Aug?
For many years Barbara and family were active members at Marysville Community church and then later at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Barbara also spent many days volunteering at the Marysville Thrift Store.
Barbara was happiest being home and whether it was with her family, friends, neighbors or total strangers. Barbara loved using some of her amazing talents, like cooking, sewing and knitting to bless others. Her wool sweaters, socks and slippers were always especially popular with many and have travelled the globe on her behalf. She was a lifelong faithful prayer warrior and supporter of worldwide missions developing and maintaining connections there until she was no longer able.
Barbara was a private person and never wanted to burden anyone. Her selflessness followed her throughout her whole life, putting others first and wanting to be there for her family whenever called upon. She was an incredible example of kindness, honesty and support. She loved her family deeply, above all else. She taught us all what is really important in life – to love, support and care for family and the friends in our lives, an example each of her children strive to accomplish each and every day with their own families.
Barbara was predeceased by both her parents and brothers David and Paul. In 2020 Barbara’s health had declined to a point where full time care was required and she moved around the corner from Garden View Village to Kimberley Special Care Home.
On May 23, 2022 Barbara went home to the mansion prepared for her by her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, whom she had trusted for many years. Our loss is truly heaven’s gain.
Barbara…Barb….Mom…Grandma…Great Grandma…Friend… however she was known to you…know that she loved you all and her memory will live on in each of us.
