Cameron Smith

Ron was born in Zimbabwe and left Africa in his late 20s to travel the world. He hitchhiked through Europe for 18 months before meeting the first love of his life, June, in London. They soon wed and flipped a coin to decide whether to go to Canada or South Africa, Canada won. Ron loved to travel and passed on that travel bug to family and friends.

Ron’s second wife and love of his life was Jean. Jean had 8 kids, so he was amongst many stepsons, stepdaughters and grandchildren. He and Jean enjoyed their travel time as well as family time, a lot of family time.

Ron was twice widowed but so lucky to meet his special friend and travel companion, Linda. They also travelled the world, fished, camped and spent a lot of time dancing and playing music.

In the early 90s, Ron made the move to Kimberley from Calgary to retire and be closer to family. The best decision he ever made, he always said. While living in Kimberley he made many friends and enjoyed the Kootenay lifestyle.

Ron was a beautiful, kind man and if he had to be described in one word it would be chivalrous. His stories of Africa never grew old, fondly recalling his time in the army, his motorbikes, Inyanga, running drill rigs and his family and friends who live there.

Poppa Ron loved his immediate family, especially the newest member, his great grandson, Jed Smith.

Ron is predeceased by his first wife June Smith, his second wife, Jean Keiver and his sister Kay Cuttler.

Ron leaves his son Bob Smith (Jennifer), his grandkids Blaise and Chloe Smith (Rory), great grandson Jed and his two sisters in Africa Danna and Pammie to miss and remember him. He also leaves his special friend Linda and her four kids. Dad had friends and family in Kimberley, Calgary, Zimbabwe, South Africa and around the world who will miss him dearly.
