Obituary of Camille Claudette HRYCIUK
Camille Claudette HRYCIUK
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and sister.
Camille (nee Camilli) Hryciuk died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday June 19th. She was born on May 26, 1940, in Fernie, BC.
Camille enjoyed the outdoors including fly fishing and camping, but was equally a dedicated hard worker in life. She shared her love of life with her beloved husband, George Hyrcuik, daughter, Carrie Hryciuk (Michael Yerkovich) and son George Hryciuk Jr.
She wanted for a long time and was finally rewarded with a grandson, Mikhail Yerkovich.
She loved and cherished her brothers and two sisters – Jim, Cheryl, Garth, Beryl, Chris, and Michael. She was very close to her cousin Sherry.
Camille was born in Fernie, but lived her first fifteen years in Hosmer, BC. Life was a challenge in those early years, with no running water or electricity. Between packing water from the river and helping her parents keep house, she and her siblings always managed to have fun, get into mischief, and keep her parents on their toes. The whole family moved to 9th Ave in 1954, where life got easier.
Camille was a dedicated and hard worker in everything she put her mind to. She worked as a waitress at Dairy dell. It was there she caught the eye of her future husband, George. She went on to work for Minton’s Drug store, as a cashier, for ten years. Camille then took a break from work to raise her two children and provide daycare for the young daughter of a close neighbor.
Camille married George Hryciuk on October 11, 1958. In October of 2023, she would have been married for sixty-five years to the man of her dreams.
Once the children had grown, Camille returned to the workforce and spent twenty-five years as head cashier in the cafeteria at Snow Valley ski hill.
When Camille finally retired, she and George moved to Baynes Lake to enjoy a more solitary and quieter lifestyle. She enjoyed gardening, fly fishing and sewing.
Camille made a point of staying in close touch with her family and friends, always offering a shoulder to lean on or an ear for listening.
Camille will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She loved you all!
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at the Fernie Hospital and Cranbrook Hospital for the care Camille received. A special thank you to Dr. Rodrigue, Dr. Schiebenstock, Deanna at Sparling East Clinic and beloved cousin, Sherry Krawchuk.
