Obituary of James Charles SHEPHERD

James Charles SHEPHERD

November 17, 1956 ~ March 16, 2022 (age 65)

Jim’s love of golf was overshadowed only by his love for his family. Son of A. Fraser Shepherd and Colette (nee Brennand), he was born in Victoria, BC on November 17, 1956. He graduated from Oak Bay High School and Rossland Mining School. Jim loved being on the ocean where he had many adventures. In 1978 he moved to Elkford and worked at Fording River until he retired in 2018. In the winter months, Jim loved travelling to warm weather countries where he could practice more golfing and visiting family and friends.

Jim leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Madeleine De la Sablonniere and 3 sons: Paul (Luz “Lucy” Arocho) with children Gabriella and Daniella, Christopher (Connie Dixon) with Rylan, and Mark (Anita Shelley) with children Grayson Hector, Nicholas, and Isabelle. He is also survived by sister Deirdre (Thomas Workman) and his twin sister Janet (Lawrence Keating), and his brother-in-law Jean De la Sablonniere (Lucie Bouchard) as well as many nieces and nephews and long-time friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister-in-law Marie De la Sablonniere.

Jim was very proud of his golfing achievements starting with having the Low Gross record when he first came to Elkford, and the many times he defended his bragging rights as holder of the Club Championship, as well as the Men’s Open and the He & She Tournament; but most of all, his proudest moment with winning his last Club Championship in September 2021.

Thank you to all of the medical staff and those who helped us during these difficult times.

The last putt has dropped in the cup of life.

In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to see you go, but you did not go alone,

As part of us went with you.

Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same.

As you wait for us on the 19th green,

When God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
