Griz Days returns Feb. 27 to March 1
Fernie’s biggest party of the year returns Friday, Feb. 27 and runs until Sunday, March 1.
Griz Days welcomes visitors and locals to the biggest, snowiest party of the year, with such events as the Griz Days family dance and Parade, CP Station Square Street Party, Griz Days Craft Fair, pancake breakfasts, live music, food eating contests and, of course, the Extreme Griz Competition, with much, much more.
2015 (tentative) schedule
FRIDAY, Feb. 27
10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. – Griz Wiz Scavenger Hunt – The Fernie Museum ;
4 – 7 p.m. – Novice Hockey Tournament at the Fernie Arena;
7 p.m.- Fernie Museum Event – Road to the Olympics. Presentation by Canadian Olympic curler Kevin Martin. – Limited comp. tickets available at Fernie Museum.
7 – 11 p.m. – Fire and Ice Dance Party – Aquatic Centre Parking Lot – DJ Jeff McCrae – Refreshment Garden 19+ – Concessions – Commit 2 Pain Rail Jam preliminaries- hosted by Commit Snow & Skate.
SATURDAY, Feb. 28
7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Novice Hockey Tournament at the Fernie Arena – Free Admission;
8 – 10 a.m. – Christian Youth Association Pancake Breakfast – Fernie Community Centre ;
9 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Griz Days Craft Fair at the Fernie Community Centre ;
10 a.m. & 2:45 p.m. – Senior Citizens Drop In Centre – $25 (Includes two bridge sessions and lunch)
10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. – Griz Wiz Scavenger Hunt – The Fernie Museum;
11 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Extreme Griz pancake eating contest at the Fernie Community Centre ;
11 a.m. – 7 p.m. – 16th Annual Classic Canadian Street Hockey Tournament at Park Place Lodge – Pre-register at the pub; up to 10 teams, beer gardens and BBQ available ;
11 a.m. – Bacon Spectacular charity breakfast (pancakes, bacon, ham, sausage) at The Northern- all proceeds benefit the Heart & Stroke Foundation;
11 a.m. – 5 p.m. – Bacon Spectacular games outside The Northern & Boardstiff on 2nd Avenue – all day – Pulled Pork meals for $10 at The Fernie Hotel;
12 p.m.- Baby Griz Crawl at the Fernie Community Centre;
12:30-2:30 p.m. – Extreme Griz Competition at Fernie Alpine Resort ;
1 p.m. – Improve your Curling with Kevin Martin – $15 student/$25 adult; Curling Clinic organized by Fernie Curling Club; Registration online at eventbrite.ca, Search Fernie or at the Fernie Museum ;
2 p.m. Bacon Spectacular best bacon dish/drink, professional & amateur categories outside The Northern & Boardstiff on 2nd Avenue ;
4 p.m. – Bacon Spectacular – 3 Pound Bacon Eating Challenge – $5 entry fee; pre register at The Northern or Boardstiff;
5 p.m. – Hot wing eating contest at The Fernie Hotel;
6:30 p.m. – Griz Days ‘Fire & Ice’ Parade down 2nd Avenue;
7 p.m. – The Road to the Olympics – Draw Weight: Banquet & Presentation by Canadian Olympic Curler Kevin Martin at Fernie Curling Club – $50 Banquet tickets available online at eventbrite.ca, Search Fernie at the Fernie Museum and from Fernie Curling Club executive ;
7-11 p.m. – Fire and Ice Dance Party – Aquatic Centre Parking Lot – DJ Jeff – Live Music: Scenic Route To Alaska - Refreshment Garden 19+ – Concessions – Crowning of Extreme Griz winner(s) – Commit 2 Pain Rail Jam finals (hosted by Commit Snow & Skate);
9:30 p.m. – Griz Days Dance Party at the Fernie Hotel.
SUNDAY, March 1
7 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Novice Hockey Tournament at the Fernie Arena – Free Admission;
10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. – Griz Wiz Scavenger Hunt – The Fernie Museum ;
1 p.m. – Raging Elk Dummy Downhill at Fernie Alpine Resort ;
2:30 – 4 p.m. – Griz Days family dance w/DJ Jeff at the Community Centre.
