Guild presenting Breaking Plaid

Breaking Plaid is an exciting collaborative exhibition by members of the Fernie Spinners & Weavers Guild, a vibrant group of women whose members come from as far away as Rossland and Calgary.

Breaking Plaid showcases some of their most recent works, made possible through grants from the Association of Northwest Weavers Guilds (ANWG) and the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance (CKCA). The grants allowed the group to host two different workshops this year. The first, an inspiring weaving for beginnersā€™ series taught by our own very experienced weavers.

The second workshop was an exciting Eco Dyeing workshop with Nicola Brown, a professional Eco-Dyeing artist from Ireland. Students learned how to use plant material to print onto natural fabrics and handmade felt.

This exhibition includes many other forms of fibre art from felting to micro macrame and is a unique exploration of techniques using natural fibres.

The opening reception for this show is Thursday, September 24 at 7 p.m. at The Art Station in Fernie.

The exhibit continues until Tuesday, October 29.
