Invermere MusicFest today

By Dan Walton

The talent that’s slowly been simmering for months in anticipation for Invermere MusicFest is about to boil over.

Invermere MusicFestTo keep two stages jam-packed, a wholesome mix of nine musical acts from around Canada have been handpicked by the Columbia Valley Arts Council’s IMF Committee.

Situated in front of Lake Windermere and parted between the Rockies and Purcells, the music will be delivered from the appropriately named, “Lake Stage” and “Mountain Stage.”

Both stages are front and centre, and as musicians constantly rotate the two, there’s always a dose of artistic audio showering the crowd – so it’s the perfect remedy for anybody developing a dance fever. The dance floor naturally amasses in front of the stage, while the more passive audience members crowd the outskirts with lawn chair and blanket seating.

Also surrounding the site at Kinsmen Beach will be delicious food vendors, art that’s been produced within the valley and local non-profit organizations to showcase their latest initiatives. Musician Workshops will also be held by some of the performing artists on Sunday August 23, the day after the Fest.

Feeling warm – it’s easy to go for a dip in the lake – entry back into the Fest is allowed and the festival grounds are just a stone’s throw from the beach.

They’re expected to arrive on stage at 9:15, for what Malinowski says will be an upbeat yet intense set.

“It’s always really nice to play outdoors and not in a club somewhere, just being able to connect with other artists and see more creativity,” he said. “We love playing to people who’ve probably never heard about us.”

Tickets cost $50 at the gate ($40 after 6:30). Children under 12 are free.
