Lake ‘Spiel turns 30

SnowflakeFestivalSnowflake Festival Friday

The 30th annual Bonspiel-on-the-Lake is taking place this weekend at Invermere’s Kinsmen Beach.

The world’s longest running outdoor bonspiel begins Friday, Jan 17 and runs until Sunday, Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Helping kick off the sold out bonspiel, with 64 teams competing, is the fifth annual Snowflake Festival on Friday evening (3 – 8 p.m.), with plenty to eat, see and hear with festivities taking place at Kinsmen Beach once again.

Things get rolling at 3 p.m. with a skating party hosted by the Lake Windermere Ambassadors. The skate is for all ages and for a bonus, participants can learn about winter ecology and enjoy campfire popcorn afterwards.

Opening ceremonies for the bonspiel take place at 4 p.m. and at 5 p.m. the Pernell Reichart Band fires up to soundtrack the Snowflake Festival to the 6 p.m. start of Taste of the Valley, featuring delectable treats from valley restaurants.

The evening’s fun concludes with an 8 p.m. fireworks display.
