Local’s act makes PEAK Performance top 12
The Alberta PEAK Performance Project announced the Top 12 finalist earlier this summer, and the Alberta-based musicians are freshly home from PEAK Boot Camp, ready to put on their best show for you after a week of music industry intensive to equip the musicians with knowledge needed in today’s music industry.
Included in the top 12 is former Columbia Valley resident and current Calgary resident Miesha Louie and her noiserock act Miesha & The Spanks (pictured above).
The 2015 Alberta PEAK Performance Project Showcase Series is a set of public showcases featuring each of the Top 12 artists, taking place at the Nite Owl in Calgary, Fridays in October.
The doors for each show open at 8:30 p.m., show at 9 p.m., with three bands performing per night. Tickets are available starting September 15 at ab.peakperformanceproject.com, Sloth Records in Calgary, or through any of the Top 12 bands themselves.
The PEAK Performance Project is designed to educate, promote, develop and launch the careers of some of Alberta and British Columbia’s up and coming artists. It also hopes to foster the Alberta and B.C. music industries and create a sense of community amongst artists and music professionals.
Top prizes this year for the Alberta Project include a $100,953 top prize, $75,000 second prize, $50,000 third prize, as well as a $5,000 base camp award given to each Top 12 band to help them with their career development.
This is year two for the Alberta PEAK Performance Project, a seven year, $4.9 million program designed to kick-start the international music careers of three emerging Alberta artists annually.
In 2014 the project awarded The Wet Secrets of Edmonton with first place, while Lauren Mann and the Fairly Odd Folk, and recent Invermere MusicFest participants 36? took second and third respectively.
The project is administered by Alberta Music (Alberta Music Industry Association) and funded by the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group through CRTC approved Canadian Content Development Funding.
The BC PEAK Performance Project is in its seventh and final year in 2015, and past winners include We Are the City, Kyprios, Current Swell, Dear Rouge, Rykka and Good for Grapes in BC.
