Look Outside September winners

Here are the winners for the Look Outside photo contest for September.

“Sarah’s obvious joy makes this photo one of my all-time favourites.

Our family spends summers floating East Kootenay rivers with my raft-guide husband at the oars. I took this photo while Sarah lounged on the bow during a lunch break on the St. Mary’s River.

Family rafting is a great memory maker and an opportunity for our girls to learn about the natural world and gain important life skills – like how to survive a thunderous downpour on the side of the river.

Whether they’re catching garter snakes, watching osprey hunt or making up songs about the time I fell out of the boat, there’s never a dull moment.

“Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream, throw your mother overboard and listen to her scream!”

She takes home a free night in a hut provide by the Alpine Club of Canada.

Howard Smith "Black Forest Ridge at 2,500 meters elevation in Bugaboo Provincial Park is a great hike. We were up there in an early September storm. As it cleared in the evening the light and clouds on the Septet mountains to the east were spectacular. Walking the ridge under these conditions is exhilarating." He wins some prizes from Kicking Horse Coffee and the Camera Store.
