SOAR cancelled but Block Party still a go

It turns out that all the training Otis has done for the Soggy Otter Adventure Race (SOAR) has gone to his head. Rather than put those registered for the race to shame he has decided to postpone the October 3 SOAR and instead challenges everyone to get ready for 2016.

He is competitive by nature and feels that this town needs more time to train -he’s looking for some more competition!

That being said, he wasn’t ready to give up his party, so the Block Party is still a go! Otis and event organizers along with presenting sponsor the Heid Out Restaurant and Brewhouse invite the community to join in the Soggy Otter block party on October 3, on Baker Street between 8th and 9th Avenue.

The block party will run from 1-5 p.m. and will feature fun for the whole family. The Heid Out will be providing barbecue burgers, salad and a cookie for $9, there will be vendors onsite selling their wares, and some fun games to benefit the Canadian Cancer Society. Adding to the block party atmosphere, Mike Davis of All-Nite DJ and Event Services will be keeping things hopping with some good tunes.

Local businesses on that section of Baker Street are also getting involved. The Choice will be setting up a side walk sale, and in addition to some good deals they will be ‘Socking it to Cancer,’ a portion of the sales of their popular InStance socks benefiting the society.

The Bedroom Furniture Gallery will be providing shelter for our music services and event participants with their large tent for our use.

Although Otis is an otter he is an ‘eager beaver’ at heart and is still looking for even more vendors and community groups to help build up the party atmosphere and join in the party. Otis isn’t that social in the winter so with fall here he is really looking to party it up! For more info about becoming a vendor, connect with Jenn at the email below if you would like to take part.

Even with the event being postponed, Otis still wants you on his team! He wants driven, passionate outdoor enthusiasts to help him put this event on the map. If you have what it takes to help make this a destination event for Kootenay residents, give Jenn a call and she will introduce you to Otis.

Otis will be available for photo ops on day of Block Party for a small fee, with proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
