Strathconas bring flash and dash to Fort Steele
Several hundred onlookers received a rate treat at Fort Steele Heritage Town Sunday evening when the Lord Strathcona’s Horse brought their vaunted Musical Ride in for a colourful show.
With a variety of background music, soldiers with the Lord Strathcona performed a number of complex riding routines August 2 during Fort Steele’s B.C. Day celebration.
The event wasn’t without some unplanned excitement as two soldiers lost their mounts during one routine, with one of the horses bolting for the sidelines, ringed by onlookers. However, as the horse neared the crowd, one of numerous soldiers who swarmed in to control the situation shouted and the horse, clearly well trained, veered back toward the other soldiers and horses. A potentially serious situation was stopped due to training, discipline and bravery, from horses and men-alike.
The remainder of the show was a captivating performance in equestrian ballet.
Local band the Good Ol’ Goats entertained at half time, on a hot, hazy evening.
