Supercalifragilistic show coming in May
By Kelsey Ackert
I am Kelsey Ackert, a cast member in the Mount Baker Wild musical, Mary Poppins. This will be my ninth and final Mount Baker Secondary School production.
Musical theatre is one of my favourite hobbies. There is something special about performing on stage that brings me back to take part in more productions. Each cast and production has its own kind of community.
Many of our rehearsals start with music, which then moves into dance followed by scene work. Anna Ruoss is the dance captain for the musical and is helping us become “practically perfect.”
Mary Poppins is well under way. The basic stage work is complete and we will be carrying on with character work. We have recently finished our first official run-through.
The typical favourite musical numbers such as Supercalifragilistic, Lets Go Fly a Kite, Step in Time and Spoonful of Sugar are all part of the show. However, my personal favourite is Playing the Game, one most of you haven’t heard before, as it is new to the stage version of the story.
Come see the Mary Poppins the classic musical, which might bring back memories of child hood. The play involves lots of magic and with fresh new talent.
Celebrate Mother’s Day with Mary Poppins! The show runs May 5 through 8 at the Key City Theatre. Show time is 7:30 p.m. (May 5– 7) and 2 p.m. May 8.
