Adventure Park kyboshed by worried neighbours

A proposed tree-top adventure park for the Wyecliffe area won’t be getting off the ground thanks to opposition by neighbouring property owners.

Regional District of East Kootenay board of directors July 8, following the lead of Electoral Area E director Rob Gay, unanimously killed a zoning amendment application that would have allowed for the establishment of the Adrenaline Acres Adventure Park, a dream child of Wyecliffe Park Road residents Marko and Sabine Tull.

The vote shocked the couple, as Gay had told them he supported their plans, which included a zip-line, tree-top clambering and climbing games, on a 10 acre piece of property across the road from the Wyecliffe Rodeo Grounds.

“For the longest time I supported this,” Gay said, but he changed his mind after the June 21 public hearing. “Not one person spoke in favour,” he reasoned.

Numerous residents stated they didn’t purchase their rural properties to have their peace and quiet robbed by an adventure park. Traffic, litter, noise, increased fire hazards and potential added attractants to wildlife were among the reasons for residents’ opposition.
