Fix your credit while driving
Since the crash of 2008, bad credit has been somewhat of a rage.
Canadians, like Americans, carry enormous debt loads and many of them are hobbled by bad credit, which hampers one’s ability to seek financial help for large financial obligations. According to Equifax Canada, Canadians collectively now owe more than $1.5 trillion, with the average Canadian owing $20,891 by the end of 2014.
A positive sign, Equifax pointed out, is a downward trend in delinquency rates for debt payment and bankruptcies.
While debt burden and bankruptcy can result in blocking an individual’s ability to obtain a mortgage, most of us can get by without owning our own home; rent suffices.
However, bad credit and bankruptcy can also block your ability to obtain funding to purchase a new or used vehicle. In the East Kootenay, with a strong economic tie between towns an hour or two apart by highway, it is not advantageous to be without a vehicle.
But those of you with less than stellar credit who are looking for a new, improved or first vehicle, don’t give up hope.
Where there is a will, there is a way, points out Northstar GM’s Travis Young, Finance and Loans Specialist and Dean Archibald, Business Manager.
“Bad credit can happen to good people. Has your credit been affected by bankruptcy, write-offs, or hard times? We are here to help you get the vehicle you want,” Young stated, explaining, “We use major financial institutions that will help you get your credit back on track. By doing this you may qualify for better interest rates right away.”
For example, subprime lending is used to offset the risk of selling a vehicle to someone with poor credit, often the result of life’s curveballs, such as job loss, divorce, family emergencies or medical problems.
“We don’t just try and sell you a vehicle. We like to do a credit consultation with you and help repair your credit. We figure out your short-term needs as well as your long term. We want you to drive the vehicle you want and fix your credit at the same time,” Northstar’s Archibald said. “We don’t play games or give you the run around. We are experts and will explore many different options and get you the one that best suits you.
“Feel free to call or stop by for a free professional finance consultation. Whether you buy from us or not, we want your purchase to be an informed decision,” he said.
Young added, “We keep you informed, step-by-step on the entire credit process,” and customers can rest assured there will not be a credit bureau check without their approval. A credit bureau check, if one has bad credit, adds a further stain to a person’s credit rating.
Keeping things in perspective is vital for people with poor credit who are looking to buy a new or improved vehicle.
It is important they don’t dig themselves into a deeper financial hole.
“We listen to your needs. We don’t sell you the first vehicle the financial source says you can have. We work with numerous financial sources to get you the vehicle you want,” Archibald said.
“We have the ability to deal with lots of financial sources that not all dealerships have. We also have the most experienced and knowledgeable people when it comes to fixing credit,” Young said.
