Loaf shortlisted for Small Business BC’s Best Company Award
Fernie’s Loaf Bakery & Restaurant is delighted to be shortlisted for Small Business BC’s Best Company Award. This province-wide contest recognizes and celebrates the important contributions B.C.’s entrepreneurs make to their local communities and the wider global economy.
Hundreds of small businesses across B.C., in areas as diverse as retail trade, manufacturing, technology services, arts, entertainment and recreation, have been competing for votes this year. The Loaf, as it is affectionately known by locals, is now in the top ten and the competition winner will be announced at the awards ceremony held in Vancouver in February.
The Best Company Award recognizes the business that best demonstrates exceptional leadership as well as a proven track record of growth and profitability.
As owner Phil Gadd explains, Loaf is a great example of a small business that has hit a chord with the local market: “We opened our artisan bakery specializing in hand- made, all-‐natural products in 2009. Loaf was so well received in Fernie that we now sell our breads and pastries throughout the Elk Valley. We outgrew our first retail space and moved to larger downtown premises earlier this year, which enabled us to expand our product range and serve a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu to our ever-growing customer base.”
Loaf has been recognized within the local community as an outstanding model for small business, and was voted Best New Business 2010 by Fernie’s Chamber of Commerce. The strength and quality of Loaf’s products and brand are the building blocks from which they continue to grow the business.
The ‘Successful You’ awards are managed by Small Business BC. The contest is open to all new and existing small businesses across B.C.
