Combined efforts lights second and sixth stars

Long before the November launch of the Starlite Campaign for Excellence in Health Care, members of the Abreast in the Rockies Dragonboat Team had already planned to light the second star with a $5,000 donation in support of the digital stereotactic mammography machine.

Much to the surprise of the Abreast in the Rockies team was when local business entrepreneur Carla Lowden and the members at Curves Cranbrook took an opportunity to do a fundraiser to further support the Dragonboat paddlers.

This week the two groups met to present a total gift of $6,500 to EKFH. The Curves Cranbrook donation combined with other regional donations has resulted in the sixth out of 17 stars lit. As of November 29 the Starlite Campaign has received gifts totalling $39,440 toward its $100,000 fundraising goal.

Since 2007, the Abreast in the Rockies Dragonboat Association has provided over $43,767 to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health in support of breast cancer initiatives for the regional hospital.
