Go Go Grannies hosting annual spring brunch
The Go Go Grannies in the East Kootenay will be hosting their annual Spring Brunch on Saturday May 5 at the Heritage Inn from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The event this year consists of a live auction, with Jay Savage being our auctioneer; some items to be auctioned are a signed and numbered print by Robert Bateman, an original painting by local artist Reg Parsons and a Keurig Coffee Machine!
The silent auction has a variety of items that have been donated from many businesses and local artists. As well as the live and silent auction we will be having our traditional repurposed jewelry which is very popular with our guests. A real surprise is a diamond and ruby ring with matching earrings donated by Dr. Laura Zeznik!
The profits made from the tickets, silent/live auction and the jewelry sales all go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation whom manage the funds that go directly to the Grandmothers in Africa raising their grandchildren.
The Grandmothers are so grateful for the assistance and fundraising that we do. Our group to date has raised over, $50,000 by having our annual brunch, bazaars, craft fairs and baking. Some Ladies in our group have sponsored dinners, ‘Dare to Dine,’ the most recent one put on by the ladies in Kimberley at the Old Bauernhaus, making a profit of just over $2,000. Well done!
The monies that go to the Grandmothers in Africa is for seed money for them to start small businesses such as growing and selling vegetables, making crafts. The money is also giving the grandchildren an education which also includes their uniforms, books and meals.
