Youth Ambassador candidates introduced

On Saturday night (April 28), Cranbrook’s 2012 Youth Ambassador Candidates were officially introduced to the community at the annual Coming Out Banquet and Ball at the Colombo Lodge.

The morning after the Coming Out Ball, they laced up their runners bright and early and participated in the MS Walk. Each year the Sweetheart team raises money for one charity...this year it was the MS Walk. They'll also be running the popular hair tent at the East Kootenay Children's Festival and assisting with the Relay for Life this month.

The candidates have been involved in the program since early January and have already completed sessions on time management, etiquette, goal setting, financial management, history of Cranbrook, the economy and Cranbrook Council, the Ktunaxa Creation Story and the history of the Ktunaxa Nation in our area, history of fashion and Sam Steele’s era, WorldHost, and more. They are currently enjoying weekly lessons in public speaking with Kathy Simon, Midge Naylor and the Toastmasters.

They will be travelling to Trail this month to represent the City of Cranbrook at the Silver City Days celebrations and will attend the Miss Trail pageant.

The Sweetheart Pageant will be held on Friday, June 15 and is one of the long standing traditions of Sam Steele Days. These eight ladies are an unbelievably talented group who speak to the incredible youth we have in this community.
