World Day of Prayer
Rooted in Prayer, Called to Action
World Day of Prayer for 2018 has been written by the World Day of Prayer Committee of Suriname. The theme is “All God’s creation is good.” and is about the importance of preserving our environment.
The World Day of Prayer was started in 1922 when women of The United States and Canada gathered together to share their concerns and their prayers. It has grown to include churches of all denominations working together all around the world.
In 1922, women were not even considered persons. They had just endured a war in which they had little agency. Even today, women struggle to have their voices heard. The World Day of Prayer, always held on the first Friday in March every year connects people all around the world.
This year the World Day of Prayer service was written by the women of many different churches in Suriname. It will be held at Cranbrook United Church – #2-12th Ave S at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 2, 2018. This year, people from St Mary’s and Christ the Servant Parish, Knox Presbyterian Church, The Dwelling Place, Mt Zion Lutheran Church , Christ Church Anglican, and Cranbrook United Church will all be taking part in this special time together.
