Earthquakes felt in Kootenays

Around the same time a magnitude 6.2 (Richter) earthquake occurred 182 km west southwest of Bella Bella (off the central B.C. coast), a couple of other smaller quakes occurred in Northern Idaho. Earthquake Canada reports the quakes were felt in Creston and Castlegar.

The Bella Bella quake occurred early this morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported this morning that a 3.3 magnitude quake occurred 13 km southeast of Sandpoint, Id., and shortly after another quake, this time 4.2 magnitude, was felt 14 km east southeast of Ponderay.

Some people have claimed on social media they felt a tremor in Cranbrook earlier this morning, too, but nothing firm has been reported by agencies related to earthquake reporting.

No damage has been reported from the Idaho quakes, while no tsunami or damage resulted from the quake in the Pacific Ocean west of Bella Bella.
