Fernie Chamber members asked to Team Up for Terry
The Terry Fox Foundation is urging Fernie Chamber of Commerce members to Team Up for Terry (Fox) – and take part in a Terry Fox Run this Sept. 15.
Kevin Chan, promotions and media assistant with the Terry Fox Foundation British Columbia and Yukon, recently wrote to the chamber of commerce outlining how businesses and corporations can help boost numbers of participants in the annual runs and help bring in more charitable donations.
“Team Up for Terry is an initiative for creating team spirit through team sign-ups. Instead of individually signing up for your local Terry Fox Run, we are encouraging corporations to form teams that will strive to raise a team-oriented goal. We are not asking to organize a Terry Fox Run, but rather, team up to run in an already established run in your community,” Chan said.
“This year marks the 33rd annual Terry Fox Run and we are looking to build off of last year’s previous success. The Terry Fox Foundation raised $26 million last year, and we were able to donate 84 cents to every dollar we donated to cancer research, making the Foundation an industry leader in fiscal responsibility,” he explained.
Chan added the call out to corporations isn’t just for Fernie but province-wide. “As part of our annual Terry Fox Run on Sept. 15, all participating community runs are accepting organizations to form teams to participate in finding a cure for cancer. The inclusion of groups, whether they are comprised of family members, businesses, organizations, or clubs is known as Team Up for Terry,” he said.
“We would love for local businesses to join alongside community members and residents on September 15 for a run/walk celebrating the vision of one of Canada’s most beloved athletes.”
By creating a Team Up for Terry team, your business will be supporting Canada’s cancer research community as well as one of Canada’s most beloved heroes.
There is no entry fee or minimum pledge amount. The run is simply a fun way to get a group together in honour of a great Canadian hero and to continue his vision.
“With your help, this year can be even more of a success than in past years, and we look forward to seeing you out on the run,” Chan stated.
