Fernie Council Connection

The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the Nov. 9 City of Fernie council meeting.

1. AGREEMENTS, LICENCES PERMITS & POLICIES

Fernie CH V1.1   License of Occupation – BC Hydro Weather Station  BC Hydro has approached the city with a request to establish an automated weather monitoring station in Fernie. Council authorized staff to execute the Agreement for the License of Occupation in the form attached to this staff report for a BC Hydro Weather Station to be installed on the grounds behind the city’s Main Sewage Pumping Station located at 7 Mt. McLean Street. Report to Council

2. OTHER INFORMATIONAL ITEMS

2.1   2015 Funds to Advance 2016 Road/Water/Sewer Projects     Council authorized staff to redirect unspent budget allocations from the 2015 Streets, Water & Sewer Capital Programs to advance the engineering for the 2016 Road, Water and Sewer Capital Program in the amount of $15,000 for each of the Water and Sewer Programs and $24,000 for the Streets Program. 2.2  Appointment to the Beautification Committee     Council appointed Mr. Jeremiah Pauw to sit on the Beautification Committee as a member of the community-at-large. Report to Council

2.3   2016 Fire Smart Grant Program    Council endorsed the Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative and directed Chief Ruiter to submit an application under the UBCM FireSmart Grant Program on behalf of the City of Fernie and, if the grant application is successful, that Council authorize the execution of a contract between the City of Fernie and Mr. Alan Westhaver for the provision of eligible FireSmart activities for a cost not to exceed the amount of the grant. 3. UPCOMING MEETINGS AND OTHER NEWS

3.1   Next scheduled meetings of Council are:

– Monday, November 23 – Committee of the Whole (COTW) at 10 a.m. and Regular Meeting of Council at 7 p.m. Council meetings are streamed live and can be viewed on-demand on the City’s website or watched on Shaw TV Channel 10 at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and 11 a.m. on Thursdays.

Fernie Aquatic Centre nite3.2   Aquatic Centre Fitness Room Closure    Residents are advised that the Leisure Services Department will be temporarily closing the fitness room at the Fernie Aquatic Centre until further notice due to a roof leak. For more information please contact Leisure Services at 250-423-6644.

3.3  Leisure Services Advisory Board is looking for members to sit on the Board. If you are interested please review the Consolidated Leisure Services Advisory Board Bylaw No. 1880 to determine if the committee is the right fit for you and forward your letter of interest outlining your related experience and how you feel you can contribute.
