Freezing rain advisory issued
DriveBC has issued a freezing rain advisory that covers most of the East Kootenay, passed along by Mainroad East Kootenay.
There is freezing rain from Cranbrook to the Alberta border in the east and to Yahk in the west on Highway 3. Freezing rain is reported on Highway 95 from the Idaho border to Curzon Junction (Yahk).
There is also freezing rain on Highway 93 from Eureka, Montana to Elko and on Highway 95A between Cranbrook and Kimberley, and through to the Wasa Junction.
DriveBC reports freezing rain from the Junction of Highway 95A to Canal Flats on Highway 93/95, with compact snow conditions reported elsewhere on the highway through the Columbia Valley, including between Radium Hot Springs and Brisco on Highway 95.
Highway 93 through Kootenay National Park has compact snow conditions.
DriveBC reports Highway 43 between Sparwood and Elkford as having compact snow with slippery sections.
A travel advisory is now in effect as local weather forecasts calls for temperatures from 0C to -4C with scattered light precipitation. There is a possibility of freezing rain due to warming trend in localized areas and the development of icy conditions. travellers are advised to use caution and expect winter driving conditions.
