Heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast
Environment Canada has issued a ‘special weather statement’ for the East Kootenay, for the Kootenay/Columbia Valley area between Invermere and Cranbrook, as well as through the Elk Valley.
There is potential for 25 to 50 mm of rain with thunderstorms Wednesday through Thursday, Environment Canada reported late this morning.
“An area of low pressure crossing the British Columbia Interior will produce heavy showers with embedded thunderstorms beginning Wednesday. The thunderstorms may produce locally heavy rainfall with amounts ranging between 25 to 50 mm and have the potential to fall in short periods of time. The exact locations of the thunderstorms are uncertain but have the potential to become severe, producing lightning, wind gusts and hail. The heavy precipitation and thunderstorms will persist Wednesday through Thursday.
