Kimberley Townsite Block Party on Saturday
Kimberlites are invited to an outdoor block party in Townsite this weekend.
From noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 in Triangle Park, Wildsight will host an outdoor potluck.
Everyone, Townsite local or not, is invited to come to visit with neighbours and play in the park. Those who would like to join the potluck can bring potluck lunch items to share (and their own drinks, dishes and cutlery).
While the block party is for everyone, Wildsight is celebrating a national day of action on climate change as part of the Defend our Climate, Defend our Communities campaign.
On May 10, people are stepping up from coast-to-coast-to-coast to defend their communities and call for a just, safe and clean energy future. Last November, thousands rallied in over 130 communities across Canada, including in Cranbrook.
Now, Canadians are rallying again to push their government to get on board with the global transition to replace fossil fuels with clean energy – and to keep the planet’s climate safe for future generations.
“We in Canada have a choice – to help lead this new reality or to lose out,” said Wildsight’s Ilona Hale, “but our federal government is trying to bet our economy on boom-and-bust dirty energy projects that pollute the water and climate while piping the profits out of our communities.
“We encourage everyone to walk or bike to the party if possible to keep it carbon neutral” added Hale.
Wildsight will have climate change information and will be hosting a letter writing campaign to urge our government to defend our climate.
Triangle Park is located at 5th Avenue and Cranbrook Street in Townsite. More information is available by calling 250-427-4300.
