Radium fire being treated as ‘suspicious’ by RCMP

On October 6, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a report that the abandoned Radium Hot Springs Lodge located on Highway 93, across the highway from the Radium Hot Springs, being on fire.

Twenty-five firefighters from four Columbia Valley fire departments responded to the blaze.

The fire was knocked down as a result of the attendance by the Radium Hot Springs Fire Department, with assistance from Panorama, Invermere and Windermere firefighters.

On October 7, upon an investigative walk through with the Fire Department, it was noted that there was overwhelming amounts of old and new evidence showing squatters had been in the building, Columbia Valley RCMP report.

The fire started on the lower level below the dining room. The fire is being treated as suspicious. It is still under investigation and any information brought forth by anyone would be appreciated.

The buildings were already slated for destruction.
