RCMP warn about phone scam

A phone scam has been recently brought to the attention of the Cranbrook RCMP.

The scam consists of an individual calling from a number that is displayed as ‘City of Cranbrook.’ The caller attempts to gain credit card information in relation to a contest being won for vacation at a resort on Mexico.

The City of Cranbrook has confirmed that this is a scam and it does not have any contests underway for any such vacations. The City of Cranbrook is not able to remedy the use of their phone number by the anonymous source; therefore residents should be aware and exercise caution if any similar calls are received.

If anyone has any information on similar incidents, they can be reported to Cranbrook RCMP at (250)489-3471 or Crime Stoppers.
