SD Board Notes
The Board and Administration enjoyed a lively musical performance by The Good ‘Ol Goats and a robotics demonstration from Mount Baker Secondary School students Landon Harvey, Derek Johnson, and Edmund Yoo, gold medal winners at this year’s Skills BC competition in Abbotsford during the June 11 School District No. 5 School Board of Trustees’ meeting.
Board chair Frank Lento also presented Trustee Bev Bellina with a long service award certificate for her nine years of service as a trustee.

Advocacy
– That the Board of Education write a letter to the BCSTA and to the Ministry of Education outlining our concerns with the situation in Cowichan.
– That the Superintendent, on behalf of the Board of Education, write a letter of support for the Cranbrook Archives, Museum and Landmark Foundation regarding their application to the Provincial Government for a Community Gaming Grant in support for the Museum History Program.
Policy
That the discussion on revised Policy 2.13 Alcohol – Grounds, Buildings, Functions and Fundraising be referred to the September 2013 Policy Committee meeting
Finance Ops
– That the Manager or Operations, Joe Tank, invite proposals for schools and transportation to use the carbon offset funds as seed money for an energy initiative.
– That the WiFi information package, inclusive of the BCCPAC Resolution, be referred to Doug McPhee, Technology Coordinator, for comment and a report back to the September public Finance Operations Personnel committee meeting.
Special Education Student Services Committee
That Darcy Verbeurgt send a letter to MCFD and all early childhood stakeholders to meet regarding collaborate service planning.
General
– Third and final reading of the Annual Budget Bylaw. Budget is $58,914,002
– That, in addition to our balanced budget, the Board also submit a needs budget to the Ministry of Education.
– Capital Project By-law; Board agreed to –and completed— three readings.
– Send a letter of support to Chris New, Director of Leisure Services, City of Cranbrook, for their bid for either the 2015 or 2016 BC Senior Games.
– Send a letter of support for the Metro Boards of Education letter of concern regarding potential government reforms to Onshore International Education Programs, and copy letter to BCSTA President Teresa Rezansoff.
