Special avalanche warning covers region
Avalanche Canada has issued a special avalanche warning for areas that encompass the East Kootenay due to a developing warming trend this week.
An elevated avalanche danger exists on the east side of the Continental Divide (the South Rockies) where recent heavy storm loading occurred. Solar warming will drive the Avalanche Danger throughout the forecast period, Avalanche Canada reported yesterday.
In the Lizard Range and Flathead: solar warming will drive the avalanche danger throughout the forecast period. Watch for conditions that change with aspect, elevation and time of day.
For the Purcells: Forecast very warm temperatures, high freezing levels, and strong solar radiation will increase the avalanche danger.
In nearby Waterton National Park, Avalanche Canada notes the avalanche danger as ‘high to considerable.’
Record high temperatures are being forecasted for Western Canada this week and the avalanche warning is in effect until April 1.
