Three arrested and in custody after home invasions
Firearms involved located and seized
Three persons have been arrested, stolen property recovered and firearms located after two home invasions that occurred in Cranbrook a week before Christmas.
On December 18, three persons wearing masks and carrying firearms entered a residence on 1st Avenue S in Cranbrook. The subject they were looking for was not present, there was an altercation with the residents, and they stole electronic devices then departed. On December 24 there was a break and enter at the same residence; the incidents were believed to be related.
On December 26 a second home invasion was reported on 6th Street N in Cranbrook. Four suspects entered the residence with a long gun, shot gun, an Uzi style firearm, brass knuckles and baton. They demanded money and drugs but stole several electronic devices.
Through investigation police learned the stolen items were at a residence in Kimberley. A search warrant was obtained and executed on December 27. Stolen property from the incidents on Dec. 18 and 26 was recovered in addition several firearms were located and seized.
Because the owner of that residence was moving a second search warrant was obtained and executed at a second residence and additional stolen property was found there as well. A third search warrant was obtained and executed in Cranbrook and stolen property recovered.
As a result of the evidence obtained three persons were arrested and are facing a number of charges including; Possession of Stolen Property, Break and Enter, Possession of Firearms, Robbery and wearing a disguise.
Kimberley RCMP received a report of a Break and Enter on December 24, where two firearms were stolen. These were recovered as well during the execution of the Search Warrant on Dec 27.
On December 29, Kimberley RCMP followed up on information concerning a vehicle used by the suspects. A search of that vehicle located a sawed off shotgun and Uzi style firearm. The Uzi style is a BB gun (pictured above) but looks real. Both firearms are believed to have been used in the home invasions.
The three persons arrested are two males (23 and 24 years old) and one female (28-years-old). They went before a Judicial Justice of the Peace on December 28 and were remanded in custody for court today, December 30. They are residents of Cranbrook and Kimberley.
This was a very complex, involved investigation that Cranbrook RCMP worked diligently to solve. Investigators were following up on the first incident that occurred on Dec. 18, when they learned of a second incident Dec. 24 and the third Dec. 26. They quickly realized the incidents were related and the suspects likely the same.
Even though Dec. 26 was a holiday and a number of officers were enjoying time with families they quickly began following up on tips.
These dedicated officers put the safety of the community first, they responded to the situation, worked long hours and were successful in recovering stolen property, seizing firearms and charging three individuals.
