Thunderstorm watch issued for Kootenays
Environment Canada has issued a thunderstorm watch for the East Kootenay and Central (West) Kootenay.
Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain,” Environment Canada stated in its warning, explaining, “ A low over the Central Interior will destabilize the air mass today and thunderstorms will develop. Some of these thunderstorms have the potential to become severe. These storms are expected to ease this evening.
“Fast moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Intense lightning is likely with any storm that develops. Be prepared for severe weather.
“Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
