At the Library
By Mike Selby
Cranbrook Public Library
In ‘No Barriers’ author Erick Weihenmayer takes a break from climbing Mt. Everest so he can solo kayak the Colorado River, which boasts some of the most dangerous rapids on the planet. Difficult enough for us mortals, Weihenmayer is also completely blind.
Part of her Exploring Countries, Emily Rose Oaches takes younger readers on tours of the geography, history, and culture of ‘Croatia,’ ‘Tanzania,’ ‘Laos,’ and ‘Uruguay.’
Preschool Story Time is this Wednesday at 11 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., and Toddler Story Time is 10 and 11 a.m.. Both will be all about castles!
New this year is Baby Laptime on Fridays at 1 p.m. This program is for babies who are not yet walking so a specific age is not really set—best approximation is under one-year of age. Since we do not have daycare for older siblings we ask that parents who have babies and children who are walking come to the toddler storytime instead of the baby laptime.
On Wednesday, April 12 at 2 p.m. at the library, Cea Sunrise Person will be reading from her latest book ‘Nearly Normal.’ This book is a follow-up to her bestselling memoir ‘North of Normal,’ which chronicled her youth spent surviving off the land in the Alberta wilderness with her teenage mother and grandparents.
The Friends of the Library would like to thank everyone who participated in the Mini Book Sale. Thanks to those who donated so many outstanding items for the sale, thanks to all the volunteers who helped, and thank you to all those who purchased items. All proceeds will go to support programs and collections in the library. And don’t forget that books and A/V items can be donated at the circulation desk in the library year round.
The Friends of the Cranbrook Public Library are hosting the Travelogue ‘Yellowstone – Volcanic Land of Searing Waters’ by Dan Hicks, at the College of the Rockies in room 250 at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11. Yellowstone National Park in September features images captured away from the asphalt and boardwalks, notably along the Continental Divide Trail into Shoshone Geyser Basin. Admission is by donation and funds raised are used to support services and programs at the Cranbrook Public Library.
