$1k raised for music bursary fund from duck race

The Edgewater Flume has long been the site of thrilling duck races helping to raise funds for local causes.

That summer tradition rang true once again during the Steamboat Mountain Music Festival weekend (July 5 to 7), with the Vermillion Irrigation District flume (pictured) once again put to secondary use with a raft of numbered ducks being added to it for a prize-laden race to the finish line in Edgewater.

The Duck Race was staged by the Steamboat Mountain Music Festival Society and raised $1,000 from the Society’s 50% share for the Carol Wilkie Memorial Steamboat Mountain Music Bursary Fund.

“The Flume was flowing fast this year and the ducks quacked their speed record, finishing in 90 minutes,” reported society member Anne Jardine in a letter of thanks to Vermillion Irrigation District representative Steve Kuffler.

The winners of The Duck Race were:

First Prize $500 – Dan Sargeant – Duck #145.

Second Prize $300 – Nicole Baes – Duck #159.

Third Prize $200 – Deb Woodward – Duck #183.

Boobie Prize Dinner at the Legion – Tara Hoffman #97.
