Columbia Valley Food Recovery Program launched
As the leaves change and the crisp autumn air invigorates us, let’s also consider the food that feeds us. Shockingly, thousands of pounds of perfectly good food are wasted each year in Columbia Valley. But this fall, we’re turning that around with the launch of the Columbia Valley Food Recovery Program!
Imagine Fresh produce, delicious baked goods, and more, finding their way to those in need. It’s a win-win for everyone! Our dedicated program, made possible by the Columbia Valley Foundation Community Prosperity Fund and the hard work done by our Nourish Committee, aim to tackle this growing problem and provide our valley with a sustainable local food recovery program.
How it Works:
- Food Rescue: We team up with local suppliers to save high-quality food nearing its “sell by” date.
- Volunteer Magic: Our dedicated volunteers ensure the safe handling and sorting of the rescued food.
- Community Connection: We distribute the food to local organizations and individuals facing food insecurity by building a stronger and more sustainable community.
