Columbia Valley RCMP Report
This past week, January 20 through January 26, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 50 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files to which our officers responded.
Speeding sledders reported in Brisco
On Monday, January 20, Columbia Valley RCMP received a report of snowmobiles traveling at a high rate of speed on Brisco Road in Brisco. An officer attended the area and conducted patrols but was not able to locate the offending snowmobilers.
Intoxicated male damaging property placed in cells
On Wednesday, January 22, at about 5:45 p.m., police received a report of a male causing a disturbance at a residence on Kootenay Road #3 in Windermere. Officers attended and located an intoxicated male who had been damaging property inside the residence. The male was arrested for mischief and held in cells until sober to prevent further damage to the residence.
Tree over roadway
On Wednesday, January 22, officers were conducting patrols on Toby Creek Road near Panorama when they came across traffic stopped for a downed tree blocking the roadway. The highways contractor quickly attended and removed the tree. No vehicles were damaged and no injuries reported.
Swaying trailer due to flat tire
On Friday, January 24, at about 11:10 a.m., a motorist reported a loaded logging truck was travelling northbound on Highway 93/95 near Canal Flats and the trailer was swaying into the oncoming lane. Officers located the logging truck near Windermere and conducted a traffic stop. Upon inspection, a flat tire was discovered on the trailer. The truck was taken out of service until the tire could be repaired. A Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement officer attended and took over the inspection.
Vehicle rollover on Toby Creek Road
On Saturday, January 25 at 9:45 a.m., Columbia Valley RCMP received a report of a single vehicle rollover on Toby Creek Road near Panorama. Police attended and discovered a silver Dodge Ram pickup down an embankment. A witness reported the driver attempted to pass two vehicles and lost control after rounding a corner. The driver and lone occupant was not injured. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to keep right.
75 vehicles checked Saturday night in Athalmer
On the evening of Saturday, January 25, Columbia Valley RCMP conducted a check stop on Athalmer Road in Invermere. Officers checked approximately 75 vehicles. Two drivers were issued violation tickets for no insurance.
Impaired driver removed from road
On Sunday, January 26, at 1:40 a.m., an officer was conducting patrols in Invermere and initiated a traffic stop with a black Ford Fusion. The driver submitted to a roadside breath demand and blew two “fails.” As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
