Columbia Valley RCMP Report
This past week, July 4 through July 10, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 82 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.
Tools stolen from Fairmont property
On Monday, July 4, a resident on Sun Creek Road in Fairmont Hot Springs discovered someone had stolen a red Lincoln mig welder, a Husqvarna chain saw, an air compressor and a Stihl cut off saw from the property sometime over the weekend.
Golf cart reported stolen from Windermere subdivision
On Monday, July 4, a resident of Indian Beach Road in Windermere reported the theft of a green Club Car golf cart from the property during the previous week. The owner did not immediately report the theft as they initially thought someone had borrowed it.
Minor injuries in Westside rollover
On Wednesday, July 6, emergency crews responded to a single vehicle rollover on Westside Road. The driver of a GMC Yukon lost control of his vehicle and rolled the vehicle into the ditch. The driver sustained minor injuries.
Speeding motorcyclist found to be impaired
On Friday, July 8 at about 7:15 p.m., an officer stopped the operator of a Harley Davidson motorcycle for speeding on Highway 93/95 near Fairmont Hot Springs. While speaking with the operator, the officer formed suspicion the operator had alcohol in his system and read a roadside breath demand. The operator blew two āfailsā and as a result, was issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition.
Violation ticket issued following rear-end collision
On Saturday, July 9 at about 4 p.m., Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Athalmer Road and Kinbasket Trail in Invermere. The driver of a Kia Sportage had stopped at the intersection for a yellow light and was struck from behind by a Mercedes GL350. No serious injuries were reported. The driver of the Mercedes was issued a violation ticket for following too close.
Four overdue hikers located
On Saturday, July Ā at about 9 p.m., police received a report of four overdue hikers on Pinto Mountain. Columbia Valley Search & Rescue was dispatched and, with the assistance of a helicopter, located the four hikers down a draw on the opposite side of the mountain. The hikers were cold, wet and hungry but otherwise in good spirits.
Columbia Valley RCMP would like to thank Columbia Valley Search & Rescue volunteers and Glacier Helicopters for their quick response, which prevented the four unprepared hikers from having to spend the night on the mountain.
Bike found in Radium alley
On Sunday, July 10, an abandoned Supercycle youth bicycle was found in the alley behind Main Street West in Radium Hot Springs. The owner can contact the Columbia Valley RCMP to claim the bicycle.
